Hi, I'm Sandra Mao

the gardener and creator behind Sandra Urban Garden 🌿

Sandra Urban Garden is a space dedicated to helping people grow their own food with confidence. What began as my personal gardening journey has grown into a platform where I share practical gardening knowledge, simple growing methods, and sustainable practices for gardeners of all experience levels.

My focus is on making gardening approachable and productive. I share step-by-step guidance on growing vegetables, improving soil health, composting, and creating thriving gardens in urban and suburban spaces. My goal is to show that anyone can grow fresh, healthy food with the right techniques and a little consistency.

I'm also the author of Vibrant Harvest, where I guide readers through practical strategies for building a productive home garden and enjoying the rewards of harvesting their own food.

Through Sandra Urban Garden, I create educational content across multiple platforms, including my website and YouTube channel, where I share:

  • Practical vegetable gardening guides
  • Seasonal growing tips and harvest ideas
  • Composting and vermicomposting methods
  • Garden projects and grow-along series

I also collaborate with gardening brands, speak at events, and continue learning and experimenting in the garden so I can share what truly works.

"For me, gardening is not about perfection — it's about growing, learning, and enjoying the process."

My mission is to inspire more people to start gardening and experience the satisfaction of growing their own food.

Sandra's Philosophy

"Every garden starts with a single seed and a little faith."

Choose Your Space

Getting Started

Choose a space that gets at least 6–8 hours of sunlight a day, because most vegetables and fruits thrive in full sun. Also make sure the area has easy access to water and good drainage so your plants stay healthy and you can maintain the garden easily.

Add Color to Your Garden

Garden Design

Add color to your garden by mixing flowers, leafy greens, and vibrant vegetables. Plants like marigolds, nasturtiums, rainbow chard, and purple basil not only brighten the space but also attract beneficial pollinators and make your garden feel lively and beautiful.

Soil Health

Soil

Focus on soil health, because healthy soil grows healthy plants. Add compost regularly, avoid over-tilling, and keep the soil covered with mulch to support beneficial microbes and maintain nutrients.

Water

Watering

Water your garden deeply and consistently rather than a little every day. Deep watering encourages strong root growth and helps plants become more resilient during hot or dry weather.

Pest & Disease Control

Plant Health

Protect your garden by focusing on prevention first. Rotate crops, keep plants healthy, and remove debris to reduce pests and diseases. Use natural solutions like companion planting, neem oil, or insecticidal soap when needed, and always monitor your plants regularly.
